Pokémon generations are distinct eras in the Pokémon franchise, each marked by the release of new core series games that introduce a fresh region to explore, a new set of Pokémon to discover and catch, and often new game mechanics or features. Each generation typically spans a few years and includes multiple game versions, spin-offs, and tie-in media like anime and manga. As of now, there are nine recognized generations, starting with the original Red and Green versions in 1996 and continuing with the latest Scarlet and Violet in 2022.
Pokémon types are elemental attributes that determine a Pokémon's strengths, weaknesses, and effectiveness against other types in battle. The following two tables count how many Pokémon have each types, and visually show the difference in quantity between each attribute through charts. Click on the bubbles of these types, and a detailed introduction to the type will appear.
Pokémon species have different gender ratios, determining the likelihood of encountering a male or female. These ratios can be all-male, all-female, or balanced like 1:1. Gender affects breeding and sometimes appearance or abilities. Some Pokémon are genderless.
Base Stats are a Pokémon's fixed values in six areas: HP, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed. These stats are the foundation for a Pokémon's performance in battle and are influenced by individual values, effort values, nature, and level. Understanding Base Stats helps trainers assess a Pokémon's strengths and weaknesses.
Both primary and secondary types contribute to a Pokémon's overall type matchup. A Pokémon's strengths and weaknesses are calculated based on the combination of its types and the types of its opponent and their moves. For example, a Water/Ground type Pokémon would be resistant to Electric attacks due to its Ground typing, but weak to Grass attacks due to its Water typing. The interaction of types creates a complex and strategic element in Pokémon battles.

Shuckle is a slender Pokémon with a yellow body that appears to be soft. Until they are in use, Shuckle's limbs appear limp. It is encased in a very hard red shell that has many holes in it. The holes in its shell are rimmed with white.
